Hairdressing & Barbering City & Guilds Intermediate Diploma Level 2 at Fareham College

Course description

This is a demanding course and home study will be necessary. You will learn the basic skills to become a capable hairdresser, through practise in our salons and working with real clients.

Course content

  • Advising clients and consultation of their needs and requirements

  • Shampooing and conditioning the scalp and hair, as well as recognition of certain disorders

  • Hairstyling

  • Cutting hair to create a variety of different styles and effects

  • Set and dress hair

  • Colouring

  • Barbering

  • Customer Service and retail

  • Plaiting and twisting hair

  • Men’s cutting


Entry requirements

  • Five GCSEs at grade A* – D or Level 1 Hairdressing.

Financial information

One or two (depending on course) salon uniforms, kits & textbooks are essential requirements of our courses. A list is available on request and students may purchase these through the College.

You may incur additional costs while on work placements.

Future opportunities

Level 3 Hairdressing or barbering (either full time or an apprenticeship) or specialist training and part-time courses.

You could find a job in a hair salon or become a self-employed hairstylist.

Studying Level 3 Hairdressing will enhance your career prospects further.
