Health & Social Care - BTEC Level 1 Diploma at Harrow College

Course description

This course introduces you to the different types of health and social care settings, the job roles involved within them and the different types of service users within different settings.

Course content

You'll study units including personal care, health and social care needs and job and progression opportunities. You will develop written and oral communication skills and team and group work skills also. All learners will study Functional Skills in English and Maths if required.

There will be a mixture of theory and practical hands-on activities to keep you interested throughout the course. You will have lectures, discussions, group work, research tasks, videos and many interactive activities to help you learn.

Entry requirements

Students with a profile of D to F grades at GCSE or above, normally including English. Evidence of a minimum of Entry 2 Literacy and Numeracy is required. Learners will need to successfully complete an aptitude test and an interview before enrolment. Learners will also complete a CRB check and College declaration. As learners may be working with vulnerable groups, it is a requirement that they are up-to-date with their vaccinations in line with the UK national immunisation schedule, and in particular that they have received two doses of MMR vaccine. This will be verified at interview or prior to attending work placement. Working in the Health and Care field is physically demanding and requires learners to have a calm and professional approach as they will be dealing with various vulnerable client groups.

Assessment

All Units are internally assessed.
