Travel & Tourism BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma at Brockenhurst College

Course description

This is a vocational course for people who wish to take an initial or further qualification and follow careers in one of the many sectors of the travel and tourism industry. It will develop your training, knowledge and skills to a high level of competence for gaining employment within this industry.

Course content

The BTEC Level 3 90-credit Diploma consists of 4 core units and 5 specialist units over 1 year. 

The BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma consists of 4 core units and 14 specialist units over 2 years.  Core units include:

  • The Travel and Tourism Industry
  • The Business of Travel and Tourism
  • UK as a destination
  • Customer Service In Travel and Tourism

Specialist units include:

  • Holiday Representatives
  • UK Visitor Attractions
  • Travel and Tourism Residential Study visit
  • Tour Operations
  •  Work based experience

Entry requirements

 

To gain a place on this course you must be at least 16, and have gained at least 4 subjects at GCSE grade C (normally at least grade D in English and Mathematics) or BTEC Level 2 Diploma with a high merit and positive reference from your tutor.

If you wish to include a AS/GCSE subject in your programme, at least 5 subjects at GCSE grade C should have been achieved (normally grade D in English and Mathematics).

Assessment

The course is assessed by assignment & portfolio building that may be taken on to employment or further study.

Financial information

Costs: Trips cost between £15 and £300 (for overseas residential).

Future opportunities

BTEC Level 3 Extended Diplomas have been developed to meet the needs of employers in the travel and tourism industry.  Employment opportunities include travel agencies, hotels, holiday camps, tour operators and airlines.  There is also the opportunity to move into Higher Education to study at degree level in many specialist areas of tourism such as travel and tourism management, event management and airline operations management.

Students will also be encouraged to study additional qualifications in Airfares and Ticketing, Resort Representatives and Managers, Ski Chalet Host.
