DESIGN & TECHNOLOGY - AS/A2 Level (Edexcel) at The Crypt School
Both AS & A2 Design & Technology, are one year courses and are offered as part of a full time study programme
AS Level: Three internally assessed coursework modules. One on Design, one on Product Analysis, and one on Manufacture. These build into a single coursework portfolio. Further time is spent on theory, in preparation for the end-of year 2 hour exam.
A2 Level: A single year-long Design and Make project is set, in which the students go through the entire Design Cycle, from research, to modelling, and then manufacture. Lessons are also put aside for pure theory to be taught, in preparation for the end-of –year exam.
As well as the standard Crypt Sixth form entry requirements, a minimum of a B grade at GCSE is required
AS will comprise two units:
Unit 1 – Portfolio of Creative Skills 60%
Unit 2 – Design and Technology in practice Exam: 40%

Education, Business, Design, Leisure Industry, Consumer Affairs, Retailing, Interior Designs, Architecture, Civil Engineering, Graphic Communications, Building, Industrial Design, Surveying and Services Product Design Technical illustrations, Computer Graphics, Town Planning
Who should apply for the course?
'A' level Design and Technology provides an opportunity for students to involve themselves in practical problem solving activities and relate knowledge and skills to that activity.
It is inter- disciplinary and student-focused and is designed to be either a complementary subject to Mathematics, Physics or Art or a contrasting subject with English, History, Geography and Modern Languages.
It provides the facility to integrate work-related activities and/or links to the commercial and industrial world.
