Course description

This qualification is an exciting opportunity for anyone who is interested in a career in the hospitality sector. You'll learn about many aspects of the industry and gain valuable practical and teamwork skills alongside developing your own personal qualities and employability skills. The qualification covers various routes, including cookery, food service and the industry as a whole. You will get a taste for what is required to work in this industry and develop skills you didn't even know you had!

You will take part in activities which are interesting and fun and that will help you to get ready for progression on to a higher level course in college or preparation for work

Course content

You'll cover things like:

  • Customer service
  • Serving food and drink
  • Healthy eating
  • Using kitchen equipment
  • Basic food preparation
  • Assisting at a hospitality event
  • Personal workplace skills
  • Work placement with a local employer


Theoretical aspects of the course will mainly be assessed through assignments and short answer questions which are internally marked. Individual practice tests will take place throughout the course

Future opportunities

On successful completion of the course you will have the opportunity to apply for the Level 2 course Certificate in Culinary Skills, an Apprenticeship or employment within the catering and hospitality industry such as:

• Coffee shop - Team member, Barista

• Hotels - Junior chef, kitchen porter, restaurant, bar, reception

• Events - Team member, host, chef, restaurant, bar

• Fast food outlets - Crew member

• Pubs and bars - bar person, Junior chef, host
