Sport Level 2 at Northampton College

Course description

This course aims to give students a basic insight and understanding into the Health Nutrition and Exercise Fitness industry, allowing them to further their knowledge both academically and also in a practical situation. The course is a 1 year programme that is intended to introduce students to the world of sport and fitness, to develop their skills and gain entry on to BTEC Level 3 Sub Diploma in Sport at Northampton College. The course is made up of different units: - Healthy Eating - Nutritional needs of a client - Use of food and nutrition to plan a healthy diet - Principles of weight management - Understanding eating disorders - Principles of food safety - Understanding Health and Exercise - Nutrition and exercise - Planning and preparing for personal exercise As part of this course you will also gain volunteering experience working with a local primary school offering sports activities. The method of learning is a mixture of both tutor led and practical sessions. Tutors expect full participation in practical lessons.

Course content

This course is designed for people interested in sport who want to further their knowledge in both practical and academic aspects of sport. It will give students the necessary skills to pursue a career in sport or go onto a higher level course.

Entry requirements

Four GCSEs at Grade D or above including English or a related Level 1 qualification.


All modules are internally assessed units they vary in the different methods of assessment e.g. observation of practical lessons, professional discussions, written tasks, presentations and coaching.

Future opportunities

Following successful completion at Merit Grade, you may progress to the BTEC Level 3 90 Credit Diploma in Sport. Alternatively, you can seek employment in the sports, leisure and fitness industry.

Further information

Students have the opportunity to participate in enrichment activities from the wide range of enrichment activities available. Non-marking sole training shoes are required for activities in the sports hall, padlock and lever arch file. The cost below is approximate and would ask you to be prepared to pay this fee when you enrol onto your course in September:- Trips and Visits £65 If you are aged 19 or over at the start of the course you will pay an Awarding Board fee of approxiamtely £90 at enrolment. Students are expected to behave, be punctual and dress appropriately at all times.
