Art at Colonel Frank Seeley School
This course aims to introduce a variety of experiences exploring a range of textile media, techniques and processes. It will give students the opportunities to develop and produce practical and critical/contextual work in one or more areas including fashion printed and/or dyed fabrics and materials, domestic textiles, wallpaper, constructed textiles and installed textiles.
AS has two units
Unit 1 a coursework portfolio should reflect the depth and breadth of the course. It must include at least one extended project such as a single extensive project on structures, landscapes etc. The portfolio can include two and/or three dimensional work.
Unit 2 is the externally set assignment. Students will have the choice of five questions to be used as starting points and are required to select one. They will have a 5 hour unaided supervised time.
A2 has two units
Unit 3 this is practical unit with a written element in which students are expected to develop a personal investigation based on an idea, issue, concept or theme leading to a finished piece or pieces. The written element must be no less than 1000 and no more than 3000 words.
Unit 4 is the externally set assignment. The students will have a choice of eight questions to be used as a starting point, students are required to select one. Towards the end of the examination period students should complete 15 hours of unaided and supervised time.
Students wishing to study this course will be expected to achieve at least a grade C in GCSE Art (Textiles) or Fine Art.
