Sport and Exercise Science Extended Diploma Level 3 at Bradford College

Course description

If you have an interest in sport and fitness, this course will allow you to pursue a career in one of the more specialist areas of sport, such as sports therapy, physiotherapy, sports nutrition as well as offering routes into teaching in both primary and secondary Education.

By combining the BTEC Level 3 Diploma with AS and A2 Biology, you will have access to degrees and careers that would not usually be accessible solely through a BTEC route.

On successful completion of the qualification, you will achieve:

  • Level 3 Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science
  • GCE AS/A2 in Biology
  • Level 3 Extended Project.

Course content

The Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science is designed to enable you to develop a substantial common core of knowledge of sport and exercise science with a large focus being placed on anatomy, physiology and psychology.

Below is an example of the Units you will study in a typical year:

Year One:

  • Anatomy for Sport and Exercise
  • Sport and Exercise Physiology
  • Sport and Exercise Psychology
  • Research Methods for Sport and Exercise
  • Research Project for Sport and Exercise
  • Sports Nutrition.

Year Two:

  • Sport Biomechanics in Action
  • Exercise, Health and Lifestyle
  • Fitness Testing
  • Sports Injuries
  • Sports Massage
  • Fitness Training.

GCE AS Biology

Extended project qualification

This will develop and test your skills in writing, communication, research, self-discipline and self-motivation. Such skills are in high demand by industry and academia. The extended project component also gives you the opportunity to undertake research projects with an industry-focus, relevant to your vocational programme. It will encourage you to explore further aspects of the occupational area and equip you with a breadth of knowledge and understanding to strengthen your employability.

Entry requirements

At least five GCSEs at Grade B or above including Mathematics English and Science.

If you are aged 24 years or over at the time of enrolment please contact the College for further information as course fees vary for full Level 3 qualifications.

 

Assessment

Assessment will be through classroom studies, practical work, problem solving, communicating ideas, teamwork and assignments. There will be continuous assessment of a portfolio containing evidence of completed assignments. The Level 3 Biology qualification will be assessed through an end of year external examination.
