Course description

The VTCT Level 2 Certificate in Hairdressing Services (QCF) is an intermediate vocational qualification that focuses on the development of a broad range of women’s hairdressing skills and reception duties. This certificate will develop the knowledge and skills required to assist technical staff in hairdressing. The purpose of this qualification is to develop a high Level of occupational ability and provide a sound platform from which to progress to a Level 2 NVQ or Diploma.

Structure Summary:

The Level 2 Certificate in Hairdressing Services (QCF) is made up of 6 mandatory units, and a selection of optional units. A minimum of 31 credits must be achieved.

M - Mandatory Units Credit Value required: Minimum 25, Maximum 25. Sub-components required: Minimum 6, Maximum 6.

M/600/8611 - Working in the hair industry

Y/502/3979 - The Art of Dressing Hair

J/600/8632 - Create an image based on a theme within the hair and beauty sector

H/600/8539 - Shampoo and condition the hair and scalp

A/600/9065 - Client consultation for hair services

O - Optional Units Credit Value required: Minimum 6. Sub-components required: Minimum 1.

J/600/8761 - Display stock to promote sales in a salon

Y/502/3805 - Plaiting and Twisting Hair

A/600/8773 - Salon reception duties

T/600/8626 - The Art of Colouring Hair

L/600/8535 - Provide scalp massage services

All applicants must attend a skills and knowledge day and have a one to one follow up interview

You will be assessed on your competence in practical

You will be assessed on your knowledge through theory work:- Oral Questions, Written test papers and project work.

Learners who successfully complete this qualification will have the opportunity to progress to further Level 2 vocational qualifications in barbering and hairdressing. This qualification may also lead directly into supervised employment.
