Information and Communication Technology OCR at Ysgol Y Strade

Course description

The Course aims to develop ICT capability using specific packages. It also aims to develop a critical understanding of the influences of the processes and products of ICT using a range of contexts relating to their personal interests. ICT develops candidates’ interdisciplinary skills from their capacity for imaginative, innovative, creative and independent thinking.

Course content

Unit 1: Communication & Employability Skills in ICT

Unit 2: Presenting Information Task

Optional Units: There is a selection of various units which can be studied as the optional units. The actual units studied can be changed to suit the group and can reflect their interests and abilities. On offer are units on digital graphics, animation, website design and construction, database design spreadsheet work. Four units have to be chosen from a wide range of ones on offer.

Entry requirements

Although each student will be considered on an individual basis for entry onto the course it would be beneficial to have a C grade in the higher tier paper full course GCSE ICT.

Future opportunities

ICT can be studied with any of the other subjects, except Computing. The skills developed within the subject are a basis for a number of careers e.g. ICT Technician, Server / Hardware Support Engineer, Computer Management.
