English Language A-Level at Windsor High School and Sixth Form

Course description

This course is particularly suitable for those students who wish to study English Language, Linguistics, English Studies or other related subjects in Higher Education such Journalism and Communication. It encourages students to take responsibility for their own learning and gives them a strong grounding in the academic principles relating to working with data. This workshop style of teaching and learning gives students academic confidence, as well as knowledge about the English Language.

This particular specification aims to provide students with a natural progression from studying GCSE. It helps students to understand how the English Language has evolved and encourages them to appreciate this through learning about its structures and its functions, its development and its variations.

This course allows students to develop their ability to express themselves in speech and writing, producing texts for different audiences, purposes and in different genres.

Entry requirements

Students need to demonstrate evidence of a positive, self-motivated approach to learning and a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade C or above in five different subject areas (including English and Maths).
