Performing Arts (Music Pathway) Level 2 CTEC Extended Certificate at Richard Taunton Sixth Form College

Course description

This one-year vocational course is equivalent to two GCSEs and is suitable for students with a view to studying Music at Level 3. The course is a mixture of performing (solo and ensemble) and theory tasks. There will be coursework-based assessments (written work/presentations) and practical assessments (solos and ensemble gigs) throughout the course.

Course content

During the course you will develop Musical Skills. Units explored will cover:

  • The Music Industry
  • Performing Solos
  • Performing Ensembles
  • Developing Music skills and techniques

Entry requirements

At least one of the following:

  • A Merit in a foundation qualification in a related subject
  • 4 GCSEs at grades D-E (including Maths or English Language at grade D or above)
  • Related work experience
  • Other related Level 1 or 2 qualifications

Further information

You will need to have a keen interest in Music and a willingness to explore a variety of different genres as well as good practical skills. You will be required to work co-operatively as a member of a variety of bands, and you should be able to offer creative ideas to refine and develop practical work. You must be willing and confident to perform as a soloist in class and as part of a band in college performances. You may be expected to rehearse after hours in addition to your normal lessons. You will have an individual lesson on your instrument once a week in order to help you develop your skills.
