AS/A LEVEL - LAW at St Joseph's Catholic High School

Course description

The AS year is based on gaining knowledge and understanding of the English Legal System
and Sources of Law. Candidates will explore how you become a barrister, solicitor and/or a
judge. You will examine both civil and criminal courts, police powers and parliament in the
making of law. You will also study EU Law, Statutory Interpretation and Judicial Precedent.

A2 Law goes on to look at criminal law. Candidates are expected to demonstrate knowledge
and understanding of the principles of criminal law. You will examine the laws to both fatal
and non-fatal offences. This will include murder, manslaughter, grievous bodily harm, actual
bodily harm, assault and battery.

Entry requirements

To take this course it is recommended you have 5 GCSEs at Grade C or above, including English.
