Performing Arts (Dance) BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma at Epping Forest College

Course description

The BTEC level 3 in Performing Arts (Dance) is for anyone who wants to study dance full-time with aspirations of progressing onto HE and eventually to a career in the dance industry or related areas such as teaching. You will develop your dance technique through a range of dance styles such as Contemporary, Ballet, Commercial Dance, Tap, and Jazz/Urban dance.

During the course you will take part in group classes, individual technique, theory classes, rehearsals & public performances.

Course content

You will learn through a variety of a combination of practical and theoretical study.

The Practical elements will include:

  • technique classes
  • workshops and master classes
  • rehearsals
  • performances and creative sessions to explore themes and subject matter of potential dance pieces

The Theory elements will include:

  • structured session activities to promote good teaching and learning practices
  • active research in small sub-groups and independent research
  • exploration notes
  • essays
  • presentations
  • reviews and evaluations

English and Maths are required life skills. As part of your study programme we will support you towards an A*–C grade at GCSE English and Maths. If you’ve already got these grades, we will work with you to develop your skills further.

As part of your study programme you will be given the opportunity to build skills required for employment through workshops and will be expected to undertake work experience with local businesses, councils or voluntary organisations.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at A*–C including English Language. OR Merit or Distinction at an appropriate. Level 2 Diploma including English Language at grade A*–C. Recent dance experience

Assessment

You will be assessed by a mixture of coursework & rehearsals and performances throughout the year.

Financial information

Students will need ballet shoes and to wear stage blacks. Your material fee will cover; Leotard T Shirts x2 Hoody Tap Shoes Stationery Kit

Future opportunities

Successfully completing the course will allow you to progress on to a dance course at university, or start your career within dance or related industries.

      The College is easily accessed by less then 10 minutes drive from both the M25 and M11 motorways.

      We’re also a 5 minute walk from the London Underground at Debden Station on the Central Line, 
      and we’re a 10 minute cab ride from Chingford Overground rail station.

      Once you arrive at the College there is a free car park with over 250 spaces, 
      as well as designated areas for coaches and other large vehicles.

       

      Once on site you can have access to our catering facilities (subject to agreement) and a range of rooms, 
      from our Theatre, with 264 retractable seats, to a standard classroom.

      We also have full IT support, and can offer rooms with either Macs or PCs running the latest industry-standard software.
