FURTHER MATHS - AS/A2 Level (AQA) at The Crypt School

Course description

Both AS & A2 Further Maths are one year courses and are offered as part of a full time study programme

Course content

AS Level:

Mathematics 33% Algebra and Graphs of Rational functions, Conic sections, Complex numbers, Roots of Quadratic equations, Series, Calculus, Numerical Functions, Trigonometry and Matrices and Transformations.

Mechanics: 33% Mathematical Modelling, Kinematics in one and two dimensions, Statics and Forces, Momentum, Newton’s Laws of Motions, Connected Particles and Projectiles.

Decision: 33% Ideas of Algorithms, Graphs and Networks, Spanning Tree problems, Matchings, Shortest paths in Networks, Route Inspection problems, Travelling Salesman problems, Linear Programming and Mathematical modelling.

A2 Level:

Mathematics 67% Roots of Polynomials, Further Complex Numbers, Proof by Induction, Finite Series, Hyperbolic functions, Further Calculus. Series, Polar Co-ordinates, Differential Equations, Determinants and solutions of systems of equations.

Decision: 33% Critical Path Analysis, Allocation, Dynamic Programming, Network Flows, Further Linear Programming, Game Theory and Zero Sum Games and further Mathematical Modelling

Entry requirements

As well as the standard Crypt Sixth form entry requirements, a preferable high grade A at GCSE is preferred

Assessment

AS : Mathematics - Further Maths FP1 33%, Decision D1 33%, Mechanics M1 33%

A2 : Mathematics - Further Mathematics FP2 and FP3 67%, Decision D2 33%

There is also the option to take an additional module – FP4
