Plastering Level 1 at Wiltshire College

Course description

This course aims to provide learners with the necessary skills to handle plastering tools correctly and safely and learn the various techniques involved in applying plaster to a range of surfaces.

Course content

You will have the opportunity to learn and practice the skills and techniques required to apply plaster and render to walls, corners, around doors and into window reveals.

You will be taught how to; prepare surfaces, plasterboard walls and ceilings, apply a final skim as well as be taught the correct use of beading.

This course covers 4 mandatory units and 1 optional unit:

  • Health & Safety in construction trades
  • Working and communicating effectively in construction trades
  • Plaster corners
  • Plaster walls


  • Plaster a ceiling
  • Using plaster materials to produce moulds

Entry requirements

Four GCSE’s at grade E or above (or equivalent) including English and maths

If you have already undertaken a level 1 qualification in Plastering or a similar qualification or have relevant experience, you may already have the skills and knowledge required to undertake the level 2 Plastering.


The course will involve theory and practical sessions to allow learners to learn and practice the skills needed. Assessment will be formative and summative and will allow learners to develop competence.

The assessment requirement for this qualification is a learner workbook. The successful completion of the course will result in a Level 1 Certificate in Plastering

Future opportunities

This Level 1 qualification will give you an introduction to Plastering. This means you will learn the hand skills and knowledge required for you to progress onto the Level 2 in Plastering.

This qualification will enable you to progress in Plastering and on completion of this qualification, progress on to one of the following qualifications: - Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Plastering - Level 2 Diploma in Plastering
