Geography AS & A Level at Hove Park School and Sixth Form Centre

Course description

The course consists of 3 papers. Paper 1 is made up of Physical Geography topics, Paper 2 is made up of Human Geography topics, and Paper 3 is a place-based geographical issue using synoptic themes based on different parts of the course (two or more of the compulsory topics).

GCSE Geography minimum C grade GCSE Maths minimum C grade

Assessment

There are three written examinations and one coursework unit:

  • Paper 1 is a 2hr 15m written examination - 30% of qualification (105 marks)
  • Paper 2 is a 2hr 15m written examination – 30% of qualification (105 marks)
  • Paper 3 is a 2hr 15m written examination - 20% of qualification (70 marks)
  • Coursework is a 3,000-4,000 word written report – 20% of qualification (70 marks)

Careers include: town and transport planning, travel writer, conservation worker, commercial sales, aid worker, human rights officer, social worker, coastal engineer and surveyor.
