Drama and Theatre Studies AS/A Level 3 at Astor College

Course description

At Astor College for the Arts we offer the Edexcel AS/A2 level in Drama & Theatre Studies.
This is a two year course with strong emphasis on practical work. At AS Level two units are studied, comprising of a study of two contrasting play texts, with a relevant practitioner, which are explored practically alongside associated coursework, a live theatre review and a practical performance examination performed to a visiting examiner, in which the students are required to perform a play extract and a monologue or duologue or design skill.
The units studied are Exploration of Drama and Theatre and Theatre Text in Performance.

Enrichment: On the course students will learn skills such as acting styles, directing styles, movement technique, characterisation, vocal skills and have the opportunity to participate in our international musicals and our own dramatic productions, in partnership with the National Theatre and Royal Shakespeare Company.

Entry requirements

4-5 GCSEs at C or above in different subjects.

Future opportunities

You could take this course with other advanced level courses, which could be related to the performing arts, to prepare for higher education in the arts or more general higher education courses. With further training, you could go into a job related to the performing arts such as working in the Film, Television or Theatre industries. You may also like to look at joining a theatre group to increase your drama and theatre experience. The course offers a distinct subject content which provides you with the skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers from lots of industries are looking for.
