Design & Technology: Product Design AS A2 at Kettering Buccleuch Academy
Advanced Level design and technology is a stimulating course that involves students in a broad range of design-based activities.
At AS Level, students will be assessed on their ability to analyse, develop and model design ideas in a product study coursework task. Students will be examined by completing an Advanced Innovation Challenge, where they will respond to a design brief by generating design ideas and models in an extended practical examination which is 6 hours long.
In order to achieve a full 'A' Level, the A2 part of the course studied in Year 13 will present students with open-ended design and make tasks, the nature of which will be chosen by the students themselves. A final end of course examination will be taken, which will test both students' designing ability and their theoretical knowledge of a wide range of industrial procedures.
Design and technology: Product design links well with most other curriculum areas and students will be able to use their broader skills and knowledge to develop and enhance their work. Students will be given group and one-to-one guidance but it is expected that a high level of commitment to work independently will be demonstrated.
Flexible entry requirement– it is beneficial to have studied Design Technology at KS4
