Music Performance, Production and Business BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma at Leyton Sixth Form College

Course description

This is a course for students with a keen interest in music who want to reach music industry professional standards in their skills as vocalists or instrumentalists. The course is particularly suitable for those thinking of pursuing a career in music. It focuses around staging professional-standard performances of music in contemporary styles such as pop and RnB, and enables students to develop the additional skills and knowledge needed to succeed in the industry.

Course content

Study covers all areas of music performance and students will be provided with an insight into the way the music business operates. All students are given regular opportunities to perform and benefit from the input of a wide range of visiting professional musicians.

 

Entry requirements

Once we receive your application form we will invite you to attend one of our taster sessions which will include an informal audition. Applicants also need to achieve four GCSE grades A*-C.

Future opportunities

We offer clear progression routes into the music industry and higher education. Most of our students go on to study at some of the UK’s top Music institutions, including the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Trinity Laban, Leeds College of Music, the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance, and the London Centre for Contemporary Music. Many of our former students are now enjoying life as full-time artists and songwriters. Our graduates include NAO (BBC Music Sound of 2016 long list), Rachel Adedeji (Jesus Christ Superstar), Sabrina Ramikie (backing vocals for Leona Lewis, Paloma Faith, Westlife), Louise LaBelle (backing vocals for Jessie J, Olly Murs), Jamie Kyriakides (The Skints drummer).

What are the enrichment opportunities as part of this subject?

All of our students regularly perform in professional music events open to the public and are given the opportunity to attend classes and seminars given by visiting music industry professionals as well as attend concerts and performances. Our students are also eligible for a ‘Season Pass’ allowing them to attend every event staged as part of the Leyton Season performance programme at a discounted rate.
