Applied Science Level 3 BTEC at The Buckingham School - A Sports College
This exciting and challenging course is ideal for students who wish to continue their study of science after GCSE. The areas which students will study include ‘Fundamentals of Science, Working in the Science Industry and Scientific Practical Techniques. At A2 Level, you will choose whether to focus on Forensic Science or a more general science qualification, in which case you will take further biology and chemistry units. This interesting and practical course will help to broaden and deepen your knowledge and understanding of science.
Students should have a genuine interest in science, an enquiring mind and an enthusiasm to learn new things. They should enjoy problem solving and independent research.
This is a challenging course and students will need to be fully committed to achieving all of their deadlines. We have a sixth form area within the department for students to use during their study periods.
We require students to have achieved at least a C grade at GCSE in at least one science.eg. Core and Additional Science or Triple Science. Students will be closely monitored whilst studying this course and should be aware that it is a demanding course in terms of generating folders of evidence.
Students will develop a range of skills and techniques, personal skills and attributes which will help them in any aspect of working life and be particularly useful if they would like to pursue any science related career.
The course combines well with science subjects, humanities, maths and business. However, Level 3 BTEC in Applied Science is a heavy coursework based subject and this should be considered when making choices about suitable combinations.
