The course for you if ...
You're a school leaver with learning difficulties or disabilities and need a flexible approach to learning combined with some support to help your independence to grow allowing progress into the wider adult community.
You will use a variety of communication skills with a programme of 'speech and language support'. You will also enjoy a variety of topics designed to help you to develop independent living skills and healthy living as well as enhancing teamwork skills and problem solving.
Alongside a programme of Maths, English, Art, Music and Drama; Basic Skills for Life students also enjoy trips into the community, using public transport, all the while benefitting from individual learning support throughout the course.
You don’t need formal education requirements to join this course. Places are offered following a successful link/assessment visit or an informal interview with the course leader.
Your progress is assessed throughout the programme. The qualification awarded is a Diploma in Personal Progress.
You may be able to progress to other courses within the department or to other adult services.
