Citizenship Studies - GCSE short course at Grange Technology College

Course description

This course consists of 2 units;

Unit 341: Rights and responsibilities. This requires you to work independently as a member of a team in the planning and completion of a campaign related to a topic of your own choice. The aim is to negotiate with people in power, decision makers, in order to make a difference. You are marked on your team work, leadership qualities and your ability to support others while working with minimal intervention and support of the teacher.

Unit 342: Identity, Democracy and Justice: Understanding our role as Citizens - Requires you to learn about the political and legal systems that support the way our country works. It explores government and politics at a local, national and international level.

Course content

Working in a team you will discover sides of your personality that you didn't know were there! Having to think for yourself without a teacher telling you what or how to do it, can be very scary. But once you have faced your fear you will grow in confidence. You will develop your research skills; you will have to operate a diary - booking your own meetings with Senior teachers and / or Councillors and business people. You will have to exercise great determination and patience when your plans go wrong; but enjoy HUGE satisfaction when it all goes well, and you actually make a difference to someone or something else. AND it's all your own work! By the end of the 2 units you will understand how laws are made or changed, you will explore the political world we live in, and reflect on how you can contribute to it.
