Health and Social Care BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate at Epping Forest College

Course description

This Vocational course will give you a broad insight into the health and social care sector and could inspire and enthuse you to consider a career within a range of job roles.You will build knowledge and skills learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations and gain experience in the workplace. The course includes work experience in a care setting, for which you will need to have DBS clearance. If you have an interest in health and wellbeing and would enjoy working with people in a caring capacity, this could lead to further training and a rewarding career in a variety of roles, e.g. healthcare assistant, key worker, social worker.

You will be given the opportunity to take part in educational trips, talks by outside speakers, fundraising and practical activities

You will study units including:

  • Human Lifespan Development
  • Health and Social Care Values
  • Research project
  • Communication
  • Equality and Diversity
  • Human Body Systems and Care of Disorders
  • Nutrition and Health & Wellbeing

As part of your Learning Programme you will also study Maths and English, working towards an A-C GCSE grade, if you have not yet achieved this already. This is essential for progression to further education, higher education and many careers. You will also participate in Employability workshops to prepare you for employment.

You will complete a placement of 60 hours in a Health and Social Care setting. This will help you develop your employability skills such as team work and professional conduct as well as broadening your knowledge of care services and careers.

4 GCSEs at Grade D and above

Assessment

Assessment is by coursework, assignments and two external assessments.

Financial information

Vocational students across the College are required to wear career-specific clothing. You will also need to bring basic stationery with you, including a USB pen, folder & pens.

Future opportunities

As you learn about Health and Social Care during the course, you will be considering your future career path and exploring the myriad options available. You must pass at Merit/Distinction in the Level 2 vocational course to progress to level 3. The Level 3 Health and Social Care course is a 2-year programme leading to employment or university. You may also choose to apply for an Advanced Apprenticeship in Care (Level 3). Future career options include Nursing, Social Work, Health Care, Housing

      Epping Forest College is the ideal venue to stage your event.

      The College is easily accessed by less then 10 minutes drive from both the M25 and M11 motorways.

      We’re also a 5 minute walk from the London Underground at Debden Station on the Central Line, 
      and we’re a 10 minute cab ride from Chingford Overground rail station.

      Once you arrive at the College there is a free car park with over 250 spaces, 
      as well as designated areas for coaches and other large vehicles.

       

      Once on site you can have access to our catering facilities (subject to agreement) and a range of rooms, 
      from our Theatre, with 264 retractable seats, to a standard classroom.

      We also have full IT support, and can offer rooms with either Macs or PCs running the latest industry-standard software.
