Fine Art A Level at Guildford College

Course description

Are you creative and imaginative? Do you enjoy exploring new ideas and looking at the world in different ways? Do you enjoy making things?

If so, you should consider this two year course in A Level Fine Art at Guildford College.

You will enjoy developing your understanding of the visual world, learning practical skills and responding to ideas and issues that are personal to you.

The Fine Art course offers the opportunity to work independently and to make your own discoveries by exploring ideas, other artists’ work and different materials and techniques.

Fine Art gives you the skills and knowledge to create personal and imaginative work. If you have an adventurous, inquiring and creative mind and are excited by shaping and determining the visual around us, then there is a career opportunity waiting for you.

Course content

You will explore:

  • Drawing
  • Painting
  • Mixed Media
  • Sculpting
  • Printmaking
  • Installation

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at grade C or above (including Maths and English). You must have a grade B or above in an Art and Design or Graphic Technology course.

You will be invited to an interview, where you will be asked to show a portfolio of work.


Coursework and assessment.

Future opportunities

Studying Fine Art could lead to a degree in 2D & 3D Animation, 3D Design, Applied Arts, Architecture, Art History, Art Therapy, Ceramics, Digital Media, Visual Communication, Theatre Design or Visual Effects for Film and TV.

Further information

All 16-19 year olds on full-time programmes will be required to retake GCSE English and Maths or to undertake Functional Skills, if they have not already attained the equivalent of a GCSE grade C in these subjects, every year of their course, until they complete their studies.
