Employability and Personal Development Certificate at Kingston Maurward College

Course description

This brand new course is designed to help you develop a wide range of skills to help you become more independent in life and work. Throughout the year you will benefit from lots of work experience, learn how to apply for jobs in the career of your choice or how to work for yourself.

Alongside this there will be plenty of time to learn new approaches to independent living such as travel training, social development and life skills, as well as continuing to be involved in exciting practical learning in land-based subjects like horticulture and animal care.

You will be based at our new Centre for Foundation Studies where our teaching team are experienced in working with students with specific educational needs and a range of support is available to ensure you get the most from your study programme.

Entry requirements

No formal entry requirements You must have a desire to work outdoors in a variety of practical land based subjects We will also need full details of special educational needs and any other reports from relevant bodies or establishments to ensure that we are able to put in place the correct level of support for each individual learner.


The course will be very practical and you will have on-going assessment to make sure you are achieving your personal targets.

Financial information

Courses leading to a qualification are FREE for British citizens, aged under 19 years on 31 August in the academic year you start your course.* However, there may be some additional costs for clothing/kit and trips depending on your course. You can apply to the Bursary Fund for extra help towards the cost of transport, food, equipment or childcare.

Materials required:

You may need to have steel toe-capped boots and overalls for some activities. Waterproof clothing. Sensible footwear.

Future opportunities

Progress on to a Level 1 course or possibly an apprenticeship.
