Business Studies BTEC Level 3 at Ashton on Mersey School and Sixth Form

Course description

BTEC Business is a well-established and high-achieving course. The subject benefits from having a dedicated and enthusiastic department who are determined to deliver a stimulating, interesting and successful course.

Course content

The BTEC Level 3 Diploma is equivalent to two A Levels. You will cover eight units over the two years. You will study six core units and two specialist units from the key areas of business for the 21st century.

The compulsory units are: Exploring Business, Developing a Marketing Campaign, Personal and Business Finance, Managing an Event, International Business and Principles of Management.

The remaining units are optional and include a range of areas such as Recruitment and Selection Process, Management Accounting, Digital Marketing, Market Research, The English Legal System, Employment Law and Work Experience in Business.

Entry requirements

5 Full Course GCSEs at grade A*- C including English Language and Mathematics at grade 4 or above. To study this subject a minimum GCSE grade B or equivalent qualification in Business is required.


62% of this course will be assessed coursework and 38% will be a combination of controlled assessment and a written examination. This is a practical, work related course and you will learn by completing tasks and assignments that are based on realistic situations.

The content of the course means that you are suitably skilled to either go into higher education, an apprenticeship or straight into the world of work.
