Business Studies AS/A Level at Alec Reed Academy

Course description

This course focuses on learning about different types of organisations - large and small; local, regional, national and multinationals - who operate for-profit and notfor-profit and compete in various business sectors and environments. You will investigate problems which are of current interest and importance in the domestic and international context of the UK economy. By the end of the course you should be able to make justifiable decisions and offer solutions to problems within the business environment.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs A*-C including a GCSE Maths grade 5 and English Language GCSE minimum grade 5. Grade B in Business GCSE or a similar subject.

Assessment

AS Component 1-Business Opportunities:

(40% of Advanced Level, 1 hour written exam)

Structured questions to assess business opportunities, business start-ups, small and medium-sized enterprises and other types of business organisations and the markets in which they operate. Total Marks: 50 AS Component 2-Business Functions: (40% of Advanced Level, 1 hour written exam) Structured questions to assess business opportunities, business start-ups, small and medium-sized enterprises and other types of business organisations and the markets in which they operate.

Total Marks: 50

A Level (the above plus a further 2 units)

A2 Component 3-Business Analysis and Strategy:

(30% of Advanced Level, 2 hours 15 mins written exam)

Data response plus structured questions. Business strategy and analytical techniques used in the business decision-making process.

Total Marks: 80

A2 Component 4-Business in a Changing World:

(30% of Advanced Level, 2 hours 15 mins written exam)

Case study plus one essay from a choice of three. Covers the full A level content.

Total Marks: 80
