IT BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma at Strode College

Course description


You will study 18 units on this program. These include areas such as web server scripting, programming, games design, graphics, data analysis and networking. In the second year, you will be able to take either a networking or animation route.

You will gain a nationally recognised and vocationally specific qualification to enter employment as an IT professional or progress to higher education.

The course will be delivered in state-of-the art computer labs including our Cisco Academy Suite. There will be work experience and you will have the opportunity to go on a number of trips and visits to universities and employers, including an international residential trip to visit the Large Hadron Collider and the International Telecommunication Union in Geneva and the Computer Games Museum in Berlin.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs grades A* - C or equivalent, such as Level 2 Diploma at Merit or higher plus a GCSE A* - C. Students are normally expected to have achieved grade C or above in GCSE English Language and Mathematics.


You will be assessed continually and must submit a portfolio of assignments for each unit, project work may be involved in some units. Pearson Exam Board.

Future opportunities

This course is equivalent to three A levels and will give you a wide choice of progression options into further training, relevant employment or higher study including degrees, HNDs, NVQs or Higher Apprenticeships.

Former students have progressed to higher level courses at a range of universities including Russell Group Universities such as Kings College London, plus Royal Holloway and Bedford Bournemouth, Portsmouth and Plymouth. They have gone on to study Information Management for Business, Computer Science, Games Development, and Software Engineering. Many students progress on to the HND in Computing and Systems Development at Strode College.

Students have also progressed to a range of skilled IT careers including IT Technician and IT Engineer.
