Information Technology (IT) at Ercall Wood Technology College

Course description

We use technology everywhere - at home, school, work and in our leisure activities, and it has a big impact on our lives. This course will prepare you for further study or a job in the IT sector, or for a wide range of other careers. You will learn through carrying out practical real-life projects and investigations and will use different types of hardware and software. There are visits to local businesses. Topics studied will include: how organisations use technology, components of IT systems, multimedia systems and communication media used in business. You will also develop your investigative, communication, presentation and project management skills. Assignments are being written with local businesses such asCap Gemini, PRH, William A Lewis. Typical taskscould involve designing an IT system for a local business, and carrying out a real IT project.

Entry requirements

  • Minimum Key Stage 3 Levels 5/6 in English, Mathematics and ICT
  • School recommendation


One unit is assessed by examination. All other units are assessed by teacher-marked coursework tasks.
