Law AS / A2 Level at Farnham College

Course description

Comprehensive study into the law and legal system, high success rates and lots of law-orientated enrichment activities.

Students who would like to learn about the workings of the English legal system. As well as study various aspects of the law including criminal, contract and tort.

On this course, you will learn about the important issues surrounding our legal system including why we have certain laws, who is involved in the legal system and how the law affects us all!

For example, do you know the difference between a solicitor and barrister? Or what power EU law has over the English system?

To help you in your studies, you will visit local courts and see the law in action. If you like reading and debating, then this course will stimulate you and demonstrate your ability to present reasoned arguments based on the English legal system.

You will be prepared for the academic training necessary to study Law at university and for employment in the legal sector.

Course content

  • There are two modules at AS which focus on introducing students to the legal system and the various aspects of criminal and civil law.
  • At A2 students will study criminal law in depth as well as undertake a study called "concepts of law" which encourages students to challenge and evaluate the legal system. 

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at grade C or above, including English at grade B or above and Maths at grade C or above.

At least one GCSE at grade C or above must be in a Humanities subject.



Exams for AS and A2 will be in May/June

Financial information

Some costs may be involved in the proposed visits and trips during this course. Students will visit Parliament, the Supreme Court and the Old Bailey in London as well as local visits to the law courts.


Future opportunities

University degree or careers in law or the Civil Service.
