Sociology AS level at Edmonton County School

Course description

Course content

AS Sociology students will study two compulsory topics- ‘Education’, and ‘Sociological Research Methods’. Students will also apply their knowledge of research methods in a sociological context of education known as ‘Methods in context’.

AS students will also study an additional topic chosen from a series of options- ‘Families and Households’.

Entry requirements

If GCSE Sociology taken, at least Grade B is required. GCSE English- Grade B minimum. GCSE Religious Studies- Grade B minimum.

Assessment

The AS course will comprise of two 90 minute public examinations of two topics including both short answer and extended answer exam questions worth 60 marks per paper. 

Future opportunities

Sociology leads to the study of Sociology at university and develops skills for job sectors such as social services, education and the criminal justice system.
