Hospitality BTEC Level 3 Diploma at Doncaster College

Course description

This course is suitable for traditional school leavers wanting to take a vocational equivalent of two A levels alongside traditional academic subjects.

The course will prepare you for work in a supervisory post within the Hospitality industry, giving you the opportunity to work and learn in a variety of different Hospitality settings.

The course is a vocational equivalent to 2 ‘A’ levels providing a pathway to university or progression to an HND in hospitality or trainee management scheme.

Course content

The course is built up of 12 units that consists of four mandatory units plus optional units.

  • You will be given the opportunity to study a wide variety of subjects including:
  • Investigating The Hospitality Industry
  • Contemporary Cuisine 
  • Customer Care 
  • Events Organisation 
  • Exploring Marketing Techniques To Market Your Event 
  • Serving Alcoholic Beverages 
  • Financial Control.​

You will also alongside your main qualification you study a practical NVQ in Food and Drinks service and and NVQ Food preparation and cooking and two Functional Skills which may include Maths, ICT and English.


Entry requirements

Applicants will need one of the following:

  • 4 GCSEs grades C or above including English and Maths
  • A BTEC First Certificate/Diploma Level 2 in Hospitality
  • Intermediate GNVQ Level 2 in Hospitality
  • Any relevant experience as a mature student.



The assessment approach of the BTEC Nationals in Hospitality allows for learners to receive feedback on their progress throughout the course as they provide evidence towards the grading criteria.

Evidence for assessment may be generated through a range of diverse activities including role play and oral assessment,  practical assessments and written assignments.

You will be expected to undertake study outside of college hours in addition to your scheduled hours in college.

Future opportunities

​Progression on completion of the course may include a higher level course such as an HND or Degree, other possible progression route is a trainee management scheme or supervisory role.

Career prospects are excellent within this expanding industry, which is continually on the lookout for skilled employees, locally, nationally and internationally.

This qualification will provide opportunities to gain work in a supervisory role such as assistant manager within a wide range of areas in the Hospitality Industry. These could include working in Hotels, Army, National Health Service, Contract Catering and Event Organisations.
