Course description

An Intermediate Apprenticeship is a job with an accompanying Level 2 skills development programme designed by employers in the Information Technology sector. It allows the apprentice to gain technical knowledge and real practical experience, along with functional and personal skills, required for their immediate job and future career. These are acquired through a mix of learning in the workplace, formal off the job training and the opportunity to practice and embed new skills in a real work context.

This Apprenticeship programme is designed for new entrants to a role in the IT sector

Course content

  • Level 2 Diploma in Professional Competence for IT & Telecoms Professionals
  • Level 2 Certificate in ICT Systems and Principles

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements but most employers will require GCSEs (A*-C) or an equivalent qualification when applying for the programme.

Assessment

Those units designated as competence units will be assessed in the workplace by an assessor appointed by Wakefield College. Knowledge units will be taught at Wakefield College and assessed in the context of the apprentice's job role using assignments taken from our Computing curriculum.

Future opportunities

Further study

Having completed a Level 2 Apprenticeship, successful apprentices may then progress on to a Level 3 Apprenticeship or continue to work and undertake a range of professional job-specific qualifications and training. Progression on to the Level 3 Framework would be recommended to enable the achievement of further nationally recognised qualifications and technical training, whilst remaining in employment. Alternatively, apprentices may elect to return to full-time education, and to complete A Levels, the IT Diploma, BTECs or an equivalent qualification.
