Media Studies A Level at Stratford-upon-Avon College

Course description

Can you see yourself working in Film, Television, Music, Publishing, Advertising or Journalism?

Media is a challenging and creative industry and requires people with imagination and enthusiasm. You can get your first step towards a career in the Creative Industries by studying A Level Media. Our course offers you a wealth of theoretical and practical knowledge needed to get ahead. You will analyse TV Programmes (such as Doctor Who and Downton Abbey), a range of Magazines, Console Games (such as Tomb Raider and The Last of Us) and an equally broad range of Websites. You will also create two exciting Media Products, which will include the production of a Lifestyle Magazine. There will be screenings and discussions, class debates, and focused individual research. Sessions will also include practical workshops and technical demonstrations to support the making of your own Media Products.

Media Studies links very well to a variety of our other A Levels, such as Film Studies, Photography, Sociology and English.

Entry requirements

You will need to have:

  • At least 5 GCSE passes at grade C / grade 5 or above including English Language and Mathematics.

Assessment

Assessment is 50% coursework and 50% written examination.
