Business Studies Level 3 Extended Certificate (BTEC) OUN at Invictus Sixth Form

Course description

The BTEC Extended Certificate is a vocational course that would normally be studied alongside a range of traditional A level programmes or other vocational courses. The full certificate is equivalent to one A Level, and carries a maximum of 120 UCAS points. In Business, you will study four units over two years covering a range of topics. These will include 3 mandatory units and 1 option unit - decided upon by your skills and interests.

Mandatory Unit 1: Exploring Business

Mandatory Unit 2: Developing a Marketing Campaign

Mandatory Unit 3: Personal and Business finance

(Plus one other option unit to be decided on student interest and achievement)

Entry requirements

Specific GCSE Requirements (in addition to sixth form entry requirements)

Grade 5 or above in English Language

Grade 5 or above in Mathematics


The Extended Certificate in Business is assessed by successful completion of coursework assessments and one exam in the ‘Personal and Business finance’ unit.

This exam is set and marked by the exam board.

Future opportunities

BTEC Business would be suitable for anyone wishing to go on to Higher Education courses in Business, Accountancy, Marketing or anyone who is perhaps considering setting up a business themselves in the future.
