Music Practice Level 3 Diploma at Doncaster College
This course provides an introduction to the practical skills and theoretical knowledge required to work in the music industry.
Although a wide range of music is explored, there is particular emphasis on popular music (rock, pop, R & B, dance/techno).
You will also learn performance and rehearsal techniques in preparation for at least five performances during the course.
The course is made up of practical and theory projects and workshops giving learners the opportunity to expand their horizons within the field of Music. Assignments on the course vary in timescale and type depending on the nature of the project.
The Level 3 Diploma in Music Practice is a 9 unit qualification (achieved in year one only).
- 5 GCSEs grades A*-C
- or First Diploma in Music Level 2 at Merit
- All applicants must complete an initial assessment in Maths and English and attend an interview
- All students should be prepared to answer questions about their musical interests and experiences at interview. Copies of previous musical works would also be advantageous.
Functional skills are embedded throughout the course, you may be required to take an exam and/or complete a portfolio to achieve these. The course is assessed continuously with critiques at the end of each project.
Previous Level 3 Diploma students have gone on to study Higher Education courses at various Universities. The most popular is BA (Hons) Creative Music Technology based at High Melton.
Opportunities exist to enter the Creative Industries at a Junior Level but further study would be recommended to achieve employment in many job roles including studio engineer, producer and live sound engineer.
