Music BTEC Level 2 Diploma at Strode College

Course description

On this one year broad based and practical course you will develop skills through a range of projects. This includes opportunities to rehearse and perform in our specialist music facilities and venues. All practical work is backed up with the essential theory.

Units currently offered include: Understanding Music; Working as a Musical Ensemble; Exploring Computer Systems; Solo Performance.

The course culminates with a production project leading to a performance for the public. You will be involved in all aspects of the final performance including the budget, marketing, lighting, sound, stage management and performance.

We have a professional theatre on campus and a range of other rehearsal and performance venues. Subsidised instrumental and vocal tuition is available. We also have a music technology suite with AppleMac computer workstations.

Entry requirements

5 GCSE grades E or above or equivalent, such as NVQ Level 1 plus a GCSE grade E or above. Previous experience in Music and/or Music Technology is helpful but not essential. Enthusiasm, commitment and evidence of your current ability and future potential in Music or Music Technology.

Assessment

Your work will be continually assessed through practical and written assignments. Pearson Exam Board.

Headphones, USB storage device and your own instrument.

Future opportunities

Successful completion of this course alongside at least one GCSE A*-C, could lead to a range of courses including the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Music or Music Production.

Former students who have sought employment over the past few years have been self-employed in the local music industry.
