Creative Media Production - Level 3 at The Crest Academies

Course description

The course is designed to develop students’ knowledge and understanding of Media and their ability to generate and apply their ideas, using the technology available to them as a tool to advance these creative ideas. The course will develop learner’s skills, knowledge and understanding in contexts that are directly relevant to employment situations, thereby enhancing employability within design. This two-year course will see the students acquire the equivalent of 1 A S Level if studying the certificate or 1 A Levels if on the full 2 Yr Course studying the Subsidiary.

Media Pre-Production and Planning:

This unit allows students to multi-skill across a range of text, audio, visual, audio-visual and moving image media. They will explore a wide range of simple and more complex techniques. Students will work to create a film poster and a film trailer in preparation for Unit 3  in which they will be creating the opening of a new film.

Unit 4

Marketing Media and Audience Feedback:

Throughout this unit students will develop an understanding of the different aspects of marketing and how it is done professionally. Students will create their own marketing plans, advertisements to support their campaigns, gain feedback from audiences and evaluate the success of their campaigns


Entry requirements


A grade ‘C’ or above is preferred at GCSE in English (GCSE Art & Design is useful)

It is important to note that written communication will be assessed in candidates written work. There will be essays!


The course is assessed by coursework which accounts for 100% of the course. This is marked and moderated both internally and by external moderator. 

Future opportunities

Studying a 3 -year Media Studies degree at most universities would be the natural path to follow, however some students may go on to study Journalism, Broadcasting, Marketing or Film Production.  Kings College, Goldsmiths, Royal Holloway, Bournemouth and Cardiff are world famous universities and have specialist media departments. So if you are interested in a career in the media, becoming a journalist, newsreader, advertiser, director or any other media profession then this is the course for you!
