Accident Repair - Paint Level 2 Diploma at Darlington College
This course is for anyone developing a career in the automotive motor industry. This practical qualification (this is not a mechanical qualification) demonstrates your skills on the job and in your own workplace showing that you meet national standards for automotive workers. The structure and assessment strategy has been produced by the Institute of the Motor Industry, who are the Sector Skills Council for the Automotive Industry.
If you have not achieved a C grade or above in English or maths, you will be required to work towards this as part of your study programme. You will be given the opportunity to go on work experience at certain times during your course.
To develop your employability opportunities you may also be given enrichment classes. This may focus upon additional qualifications, industrial updating and career preparation.
Learning will take place in our industry standard accident repair workshop and classrooms. You will cover areas such as preparing, painting and finishing different surfaces, applying fillers and carrying out repairs to motor vehicles paint work.
Topics covered include:
- Health and safety in an automotive environment
- Support working relationships
- Applying fillers and foundation materials
- Tools and equipment used in vehicle refinishing
- Preparing metal and pre-painted surfaces
- Repairing minor paint defects

You will need 4 GCSE's at grades D, and a Level 1 qualification in a related subject would be beneficial, but is not essential. You must have a Grade D in GCSE English and maths.
You will be required to attend an interview at the college for all courses and Apprenticeships and we will request a school or college report.
