Entry requirements

The course is for keen and hard working students who have successfully achieved grade D or higher at AS Geography.

Assessment

Formative assessment during the course will occur informally in class, through your class work and homework and through assessed tasks. Exam questions will be set for homework an in lesson under exam conditions. Assessment through fieldwork techniques will also contribute towards your end grade

Future opportunities

Geography is a popular subject for employers as it demonstrates a student has the ability to look at global issue and respond to them, making an informed decision. This A-Level course will also develop your independent skills and time management.

Further information

Students must be willing to conduct their own research out of academy time. It is advised that students keep up to date with current issue that arise on a global scale, by reading newspapers and watching the news.

    • Handsworth Wood Girls' Academy is situated within a large green site with playing fields at the front and back of the main buildings.  Unlike many new schools, classrooms at HWGA are spacious, and most teachers have their own rooms and are accessible to support students.  Much refurbishment has taken place over the last two years.  Recent changes have included a refurbished library, refurbished and extended Sixth Form Learning Area, five brand new Science laboratories with refurbishment of the supporting preparatory rooms, a refurbished MFL department and refurbished Health and Social Care rooms.  In addition, the school is equipped with a modern  IT network including a cutting edge wireless cloud network throughout the school.  All Sixth Form students are supplied with their own laptops for study within the academy and at home.  The school has two dedicated Performing Art Suites, a Dance Studio and a large hall with high quality lighting rigs, and mechanised seating that provides a flexible performance venue.
