Health & Social Care A Level at The Belvedere Academy 6th Form

Course description

The Applied A Level in Health and Social Care covers a wide range of topic areas. It incorporates the study of Sociology, Psychology and Biology to understand all aspects of health and development.
 
This course provides students with the opportunity to develop a theoretical understanding of issues related to health, illness and disease as well as opportunities to complete practical projects to enable them to develop skills relevant to the health, social care and early years sectors of employment.

At AS Level students learn about contemporary health issues such as obesity, alcohol and drug abuse as well as inequalities in patterns of health, illness and disease.  Students also learn about key laws and social policy developments relating to the provision of health and welfare services.  
 
Pupils are provided with the opportunity to apply their skills and knowledge by participating in a work placement within a health, social care or early years setting and by carrying out a health promotion campaign on a contemporary health issue.  
 
At A level pupils learn about the planning and provision of health and social care services Pupils also study a range of mental health conditions, such as anorexia nervosa, OCD and schizophrenia.

Assessment is in the form of one written examinationand two coursework portfolios:

  • Communciation in Care Settings - portfolio

Year 13

Assessment is in the form of two written examinations and four coursework portfolios
