Physics - A Level at Cordeaux Academy

Course description

A-level Physics is a broad-based programme with a relevance to those of you with an interest in pure science or a career allied to medicine or engineering.

In this course you will learn about particles, quantum phenomena and electricity. Later in the year your attention will turn toward the study of waves and how mechanics and materials are used in everyday life. Throughout the course, you will undertake practical investigation, building on the skills learned at GCSE. Practical techniques will be assessed through ISAs.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at Grades A*-C to include two sciences at grade B and maths at grade B. OR a Level 2 BTEC First Diploma in Science at merit or higher plus GCSE maths at Grade B. OR a Level 2 BTEC First Certificate in Science at merit or higher plus 3 GCSEs including maths at Grade B. You are strongly recommended to undertake A-level Maths or Maths for Engineering alongside this subject, due to the strong mathematical emphasis of this course.

Future opportunities

A-level Physics offers progression to degree level courses in physical sciences, medicine and related occupations, engineering and many other areas. Many former students have gone on to study physics and astrophysics at university. A science qualification is desirable for many occupations.
