Art, Craft and Design AS level at Edmonton County School

Course description

If students are creative, persistent and can use their initiative, AS Art is a practical course that can open up the students’ potential. Students will be introduced to a variety of experiences that explore a range of two-dimensional and/or three dimensional media, processes and techniques. Students will work in traditional and new media. Students must show evidence in two or more of the areas of study (Fine Art, Graphic Communication, Textile Design, 3D and Photography).

Course content

AS Art is designed to encourage a broad approach to art .Work produced will demonstrate the use of formal elements, creative skills and give visual form to individual thoughts, feelings, observations and ideas. Students will be expected to visit galleries on their own, with the school and attend life drawing class.

Component 1:       

Flesh project  - 30% of AS   

Conflict of Space project  - 30% of AS                                                       

Component 2:  

Students choice of one starting point question (choice of 5) - 40% of AS

Entry requirements

A*-B GCSE in Art, Photography, Textiles or Product Design.

Assessment

Component 1: Portfolio of work

Component 2: Externally set assignment: preparatory period plus 10 hours supervised time

Future opportunities

Complete a Foundation Art course before commencing onto a full Art degree course. Art can lead to a variety of careers in the creative Industries.
