Veterinary Nursing Level 3 Diploma at South Gloucestershire and Stroud College*

Course description

This qualification will allow you to apply for professional registration as a Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS).

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at grades 4 (grade C) or above, including English Language, Mathematics and Science. For students without GCSEs, a combination of Level 2 Functional Skills in English and Maths and either Level 2 Diploma for Veterinary Care Assistants or Level 2 Animal Nursing Assistant (ANA) is required.


Learners will discuss their own SMART targets with their personal tutor. In order to review progress, learners will meet regularly with their personal tutor and feedback on assessments will be provided by teaching staff and a clinical coach. Learners will also complete a record of Veterinary Nursing Training.

Future opportunities

On completion of the qualification and completing the required hours of training, you will be able to apply to join the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons' Register of Veterinary Nurses.

Employment options include as a qualified Veterinary Nurse within a small practice or large veterinary hospitals.

With further training, other opportunities will become available, including as Veterinary Nurse Team Leader, Practice Manager, Research, Teaching, Rehabilitation (e.g. physiotherapy or hydrotherapy).
