History of Art A Level at Cleveland College of Art and Design

Course description

This course offers students the opportunity to explore the very real influence art and design and the growth of society have had on each other throughout history.

Students will examine meanings conveyed through art and design from the Italian Renaissance to the contemporary works of today and how these have influenced and been influenced by changing social, political, cultural and economic factors.

Students studies are further enhanced by museum and gallery visits as well as talks given by visiting lecturers and practitioners from industry.

This will enable students to develop their skills in observing and interpreting artworks through a theoretical approach to study

Course content

A fascinating insight into the history of art through a range of delivery approaches including educational visits and guest speakers combined with personal interpretations and explorations.

Entry requirements

Five GCSEs at A*-B and maths and English minimum C grade.

Future opportunities

On successful completion of the course students will have the skills and qualifications needed to progress onto a wide range of courses at foundation or degree level, or to go directly into industry
