Sport BTEC at Hartlepool Sixth Form College
This course is designed to give learners the skills, knowledge and experience needed to improve physiologically and psychologically. Learners will gain an in-depth knowledge of the science behind sport and take part in practical sessions. Learners will be challenged to reach the progression criteria set to allow them to progress and “top-up” to the BTEC L3 Diploma in their second year of studying Level3. Modules covered include the Principles of Anatomy and Physiology, Fitness Testing and Training, Sports Nutrition, Sports Development. All learners on the Programme will be challenged to progress to the BTEC L3 Diploma Sport & Exercise Science (top-up qualification in YR2). Students who complete this course, will gain a wide range of skills which will make them suitable for apprenticeships in the sports sector. Learners on this course will have the opportunity to work with local organisations in the delivery of sporting opportunities in order to experience real life delivery to groups of participants.
Sessions will be a mixture of theory and practical lessons and wherever possible underpinning theory will also be demonstrated in a practical context. There will be a variety of assessment methods used (written assessments, observations, presentations and discussions being some) and learners will have a thorough understanding of the evidence they are expected to produce.
Those who do not enter HE could progress into career roles such as Leisure Assistant, Assistant Sports Coach, Gym Instructor, or be involved in the administration of sport and leisure. Employability plays an important role in this programme and is evidenced by the inclusion of an additional qualification to make learners “more employable” when they complete the course and ensure they have additional qualifications on top of their BTEC.
