Pshycology at Washwood Heath Academy

Course description

This course is suitable for anyone who is interested inunderstanding relationships and social groups in the worldaround them. Psychology is the scientific study of people. You should be interested in learning how and why individuals andgroups think and behave in the way that they do. Using the scientific methods of careful research,experimentation and statistical analysis, you will be ableapply your understanding to a range of situations. The course requires you to learn to be numerate, to use logical reasoning and  to express yourself clearly and conciselyin writing.

Entry requirements

You will need five GCSEs at grade C or above, includingEnglish and Mathematics at grade B.


The course is made up of 4 units, 2 per year, which are each assessed by an exam:

  • Cognitive & Developmental Psychology and Research Methods.
  • Biological & Social Psychology and Individual Differences.
  • Topics in Psychology.
  • Psychopathology, Psychology in Action and Research Methods.

Future opportunities

Psychology careers are diverse and wide ranging. Clinical psychology enables you to work in the health sector; educational psychology involves schools; occupational psychology is in the business and corporate sector, and forensic psychology is essential in policing and judiciary. Many students go on to university after the course.
