Study in these additional courses will include; producing websites, digital advertisements, special effects, photographic darkroom skills and more.
As media professionals themselves, the course team structure the programme around their learner's interests allowing students to simultaneously look at the larger industry whilst working towards specialising in areas and roles that interest them. This ethos culminates in a Final Major Project in the second year in which the student will create their own media product supported by the course team. Past projects have included short films, television shows, documentaries, photographic exhibitions, fashion and lifestyle magazines, computer games and social action media.
Past students have worked on a variety of video, audio and print projects for real clients including the National Animal Welfare Trust, the NHS, Cornwall and Devon Fire Service, National Stop Smoking service and live broadcast of the Cornish Pirates rugby games and British Professional Surfing Tour to name a few. Professional projects completed on the course have received much acclaim in the local and national press and the College's efforts to give students professional experience have achieved a Beacon 'Highly Commended' Award for the centre in 2008.
In addition, students will have access to a wide range of professional equipment, effectively allowing them to focus on their own personal projects and videos whether it is skate videos, zombie films, review blogs or comedy pieces. The kit includes HD Canon 5 & 6 D cameras, four camera television studio, recording studio, Green-screen facilities, steadicam rigs and mounts, 12ft extendable camera crane, portable LED lighting kits, broadcast quality cameras, and a bank of water cameras including the new HD Go Pro Hero 3, all of which is available to our students to hire at no cost!
However, that's not all. The media course pushes students to work in professional environments with working practitioners. Students will create, shoot, edit, pitch and present a complete film product to industry professionals who have included past Oscar Winner Jane Pugh and Ant and Dec's Creative Director Mike Cunliffe alongside Film Armourer Dan Johnson, who has worked with Steven Spielberg and Matt Damon.
