Public Services BTEC Level 1 Diploma at Walsall College

Course description

The ideal course for individuals considering a career in any one of the public services. You will study a range of units providing an insight into the work of the services and the entry requirements and relevant skills. This course is a useful stepping stone to the BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Public Services if you achieve merits or distinctions throughout the course, and is ideal if you wish to pursue one of the following careers:

  • the Armed Forces
  • Police Service
  • Fire Service
  • Prison Service
  • Security
  • Revenue and Customs
  • Youth and Community work

The course consists of eleven units which cover a wide variety of topics, including:

  • Wellbeing and Fitness
  • Volunteering
  • Security Work
  • Public Service Incidents
  • Assisting the Public
  • Events and Expedition Skills

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements although you should have a good standard of communication. All students at Walsall College have to take part in an initial assessment to ensure they are enrolled on the most suitable course.

Assessment

All work is assessed by way of internally written assignments. These may require learners to produce written work or presentations, or to take part in discussions or group activities

Future opportunities

It is possible to progress on to the Level 2 course depending on the standard of your work, your attendance and disciplinary record.
